Most readers embark on their literary journey with picture books, often delving into comics, and gradually progressing towards historical novels, fiction, and finally immersing themselves in the realm of non-fiction, exploring topics of personal interest. Different individuals find their comfort zone at varying stages of this literary progression. Currently, I find myself engrossed in the world of non-fiction, although I do indulge in fictional novels and short stories, albeit not as frequently as their informative counterparts. Perhaps my inclination towards non-fiction stems from my educational background or my curiosity to understand the intricacies of the world surrounding us, rather than delving into the nuanced emotions portrayed in works of fiction.

When it comes to selecting a book, I typically begin by examining the author and their expertise in the subject matter. For me, comprehending the context of the book from the author's perspective is essential. To truly grasp the message the author seeks to convey through their manuscript, it is vital to understand the journey that led them to their ideas and concepts.


Next, I delve into the excerpts of the book, often found on the back cover or within the pages. These glimpses provide valuable insights into what we can expect from the book. They offer a taste of the author's writing style, the themes explored, and the overall tone of the work.


Lastly, I delve into the comments and reviews provided by expert reviewers and notable figures who have shared their thoughts on the book. While some reviewers offer precise and concise information, there are instances where imagination is required to decipher their comments and opinions.


In India, bookshops often showcase self-help books and those authored by renowned writers. Consequently, navigating through the store becomes a necessary step in the book selection process. Investing time in this initial exploration is worthwhile, as it leads to finding the right book that will shape our thoughts and perspectives for a lifetime. It is through this approach that I have stumbled upon literary gems. I acknowledge that this methodology is not foolproof, but the rate of disappointment is minimal. As a result, my collection of books contains very few unread volumes.
