Navigating the Digital Landscape with Wisdom

I recently came across a quote by Isaac Asimov that left a lasting impact on me: "The saddest aspect of right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom." Known as "The Great Explainer," Asimov's visionary ideas, penned in numerous novels and books, predated the internet's global village.

Reflecting on Asimov's words, I can't help but notice how social media, initially envisioned as a platform for sharing memories and fostering digital harmony, has transformed into a space filled with meaningless forwards, negativity, and abusive language. It's disheartening to see what we've made of it.

This isn't a unique trend. Consider Philo Farnsworth, the inventor of TV, who envisioned it as an educational tool. Instead, it became a pervasive source of entertainment. Similarly, the Lumière brothers introduced cinema in 1895 for documentation, storytelling, and education, only to see it evolve into a primarily entertainment-driven medium. Today, its trajectory risks polarizing people.

Scientific discoveries face a similar fate. Nuclear energy and biotech, originally intended for positive purposes, sometimes end up being used for entirely opposite goals.I am also worried how the AI will be abused in coming days for rediculing reasons. 

However, alongside technological evolution, individual responsibility plays a crucial role. The onus is on us to use technology wisely, spreading love and knowledge rather than falsehoods. Discipline is just as vital in the digital realm as it is in the physical one. Sharing misinformation on social media is akin to telling lies in real life—it accumulates and eventually comes back to haunt us.

Fact-checking before sharing information is a crucial filter. This simple step could prevent situations like conflicting narratives during events such as the Chennai flood. If both sides fact-checked before sharing, it would facilitate quicker and more effective help for those in need.

Let's strive for wisdom not only in the physical world but also in the digital realm. It's a shared responsibility to ensure that our advancements contribute positively to society, aligning with the original intentions behind their creation.
